We’re one month out from the New York City marathon. I’ve tested headsets, music players, running packs, watches and more. In all of my testing, I’ve also tried various holders for the iPod or iPhone. I’ve taken to holding the iPod when running because I’m not a fan of the armbands. But recently I stumbled across a different kind of iPod holder. I’ve been testing the iStik, a clever plastic iPod holder that clings to your top with magnets. I was skeptical at first, but these magnets are like jaws of steel. They have eight super-strong neodymium magnets, which are also used in electric motors and appliances. You’ll need a coin or key to twist the iStik open, but once it’s enclosed, the iPod is secure. The holder has openings for the controls and headset plug, so it’s easy to skip to a new song or podcast if you don’t use headphones with the built-in remote. See less
