This delightfully feminine frock is called the "Darla". Based on an orginial dress from 1945, the Darla reflects the design trends of the period in many ways. The exploration of the use of ruching, which is a quintessential design element of the time, seems to be the intention of the original designer. While there was some re-interpretation of the orginial design, you will still find multiple rows of ruching at shoulder front and lower bodice. The sleeves are unique in that the center of the sleeve has seven rows of ruching set into a "V" shaped slit near the hem. The sleeve is gathered at the cap. This treatment keeps a smooth line at the lower half of the sleeve and creates a soft billowy shape at the top. The seven gore skirt is set below the bust line in a peak between the breasts. This design element was very popular during this period and is quite flattering as the skirt lays smoothly from rib to hip while the bodice creates fullness only at the bustline. This elegant coat frock was based on a vintage pattern from 1954. The coat frock, which is a dress that reads like a coat, begun its popularity in the 1920s and reappers in the 1950s. While both decades have an interpretation of the coat frock, the silhouettes couldn't be more different. In the 1920s, the fashion trended toward androgynous silhouettes that minimized the accentuation of female curves. An excellent example of the 20s coat frock is the April. As you can clearly see, the 1950s celebrated the female form. This ultra feminine design is flattering to most body types as it has a princess line. The lack of a seam dividing the bodice from the skirt is particularly flattering to longer waisted as well as curvy bodies. The Eva is stitched in black bengaline. The center front panels flow into the sailor collar which is framed in braiding also seen along the back seams. This dress has slender three-quarter sleeves and velvet buttons at the front and on the collar. See less

The story about "Veronica" told of a woman that was at a dance with her boyfriend who was off to war the next morning. With the introduction of this silhouette, we revisited Veronica in her life in wartime America. Thus, the name of this dress became "Veronica Revisited". This lovely dress is composite of elements seen in women's fashion design during the war. The Veronica Revisited is stitched in black, rayon, satin-backed crepe with mini, red rosebud, floral georgette, surplice neckline set into front shoulder yokes.
