"I thought it was just going to be us," she says about the upcoming Thanksgiving dinner with her husband. "We were going to have turkey and stuffing and whatever I was going to make; I already had the menu planned."

Highlights: But then, Geri's husband David invited his mother Elsie to join them. "I will eat almost anything," Elsie says, "but I will NOT eat turkey, especially when they load it up with that gravy. I will not eat it."

Then eat everything else and shut up (with a smile). It's Thanksgiving. How many entire families miss out on turkey they looked forward to all year because someone's a self-important bitch... "Is it timely? Is it true? Is it kind? And is it necessary? Take a breath and ask yourself that, and then offer whatever it is you're going to say. I bet you half the time you're not going to say it. And you can even bring a dish!" Elsie interrupts: "What I meant, really, was why not make a dish for people who don't like turkey? There are a lot of people like me who don't like turkey. Why not create something different?" "Elsie! If you had only said it that way! Instead you said, 'I'm NOT gonna eat that turkey with all that gravy!'" Elsie makes no excuses: "I don't apologize, that's who I am!"

Highlights: Shopping season expected to be weakest in years

Credit card cut up: Volunteers stand in a shopping mall with a pair of scissors and a sign offering a simple service: to put an end to extortionate interest rates and mounting debt with one considerate cut. Be careful though: in some first-world countries, carrying scissors in public can get you arrested as a "terrorist". Zombie Walk: The cheerful dead wander around malls, marveling at the blank, comatose expressions on the faces of shoppers. The zombies are happy to be among their own kind, but slightly contemptuous of those who have not yet begun to rot. Whirl–mart: This activity has the advantage of being most likely to piss off security personnel. You and nine of your closest friends silently drive your shopping carts around in a long, inexplicable conga line without ever actually buying anything.
