and also WOWZERS.
I am so, so, so unexceptionably infatuated with summer this year. Would you like to know why? I bet you fashion kitties would. So, I'll tell you in a nice little fancy bullet list:
- sunglasses. 2008 was the first year I finally realized, "Christ. I look amazing in sunnies. They frame my face just right and completely make my outfit much more fashion-forward AND functional." Unfortunately, I realized this just as I was entering a fashion rut, and ended up buying only one pair in a not-so-fahion-forward style from a thrifty. But this year, woah nelly! I'm going to be wearing the cutest hippie-surfer styles out there for underthe price of $20... look out.
- animal prints/v-necks/scoop-necks. Sure, that's a little broad... but okay. Listen. Summer this year for me is pale peach and sun-drenched, breezy-boho, lots of legs and less make-up. Now, v-necks and scoop-necks are perfect for this summer because they show a bit of skin (good for a tan line) but still stay cute and classy. And animal prints are always, always in.
- high waisted/short shorts. I am SO excited to be the first of my friends to try the high waisted shorts. So adorable and figure flattering, and perfectly modest. They make your legs seem a million miles long, especially with a cute wedge. I know a lot of people think short shorts are too dirty or risque, but I fully disagree. Sure, there is a limit (if you bend over and your cheeks are hanging out, don't waste your money), but for summer ONLY, short shorts are a cute way to show off legs or balance out a flowy top or t-shirt.
- big dangly earrings. I just recently started this trend back up at my high school, and I have found there are a few restrictions to it. Make sure the earrings aren't too heavy or your earlobes will be sore for days. The cutest ones are intricate but simple hardware, as in less beads, more framework. They are PERFECT for spicing up a simple (v-neck) tee and high waisted shorts.
- poofy a-line skirts. This is NOT a hard trend to pull off. They look great on just about everyone, unlike the recently popular skinny jean. Cute for a girly laid back vibe.
- hippie dresses. They're finally back! Going back to the 60's, I'm adoring these woodstock-inspired frocks. They're a bit more toned down and the cut is fabulous. Great for attention to legs and arms. I'm so excited to wear the ones in my "Summer Inspirations" list!! Cute with simple sandals and laid-back hair with big sunnies.
- PLAID. This is probably the most obvious and easiest trend this summer! Especially in tops, plaid is rad! I love the idea of this cute button down lumberjack shirt paired with short shorts and sandals, with a fringe-enduced purse and large shades!
one sec please...
