  • GAIAM
One of my favorite catalogs to shop from is Gaiam. Each time I buy something from them it is re-created, fairly traded and/or supporting  a great charity. They also have really cool things or I wouldn't want to buy their stuff.
Gaiam gives POP. That means a Portion of the Proceeds go to all sorts of charitable causes opening up all sorts of gift ideas. For any purchase you can be a Go Zero Hero and buy a go zero tree to offset your carbon footprint caused by the shipping of your gift. The replant forests and restore wildlife habitats.
Gaiam's stuff is fairly traded. It is cool stuff like jewelry, chocolate, clothing, art, home decor. When you buy it you are helping artisans around the world earn living wages and learn marketable skills.
Gaiam makes a lot of recreated stuff that helps to keep stuff out of landfills and use up valuable resources. I love the Recycled Tree of Life Wall Sculpture made from recycled oil drums and the eco fleece robe made out of recycled soda bottles.
Check out Gaiam to see a lot of cool gifts that you can give that also give back.
  • Women's Bean Project...
    Peace Bank
I like to shop at SERVV. They are a catalog that supports charities around the world that help people help themselves. The organization's mission is to "promote the social and economic progress of people in developing regions of the world by marketing their products in a just and direct manner" For example, the Women's Bean Project makes tasty soup mixes and chili mixes. They ship really well and look pretty! Also, I like their fair trade crafts. I got a really cool bank that says peace in many different languages. Now I can save my spare change and it reminds me to use it to made a difference.

    Humanitas Wines-Drink...
    Children Around a Loving...
Now that I'm in full shopping mode for the holidays, I like to try to fit in as many purchases as I can that make me feel good twice. What I mean is. I like the product or service I am giving and I know that the world is a little bit better for me getting it for somebody.
I always get my holiday cards from UNICEF. They are really cute and support a great cause - the human rights of children around the world. It's not political or religious so everybody can get behind it! Everybody loves getting cards and everybody loves to think they are helping out kids, right? I know I do.
Also, I love Humanitas wines. Not only are they yummy, I am supporting a local winery that supports my community. I get to pick my local California charity to support with my purchase. It's great drinking my way to a better world. The stuff is award winning too so you can be proud to give it as a gift! Drink a cup of kindness to celebrate the new year.
Finally, I would like to highlight one of my favorite good for the planet services- TerraPass. They let you calculate your (or your boyfriend's or mom's) carbon footprint and then you may purchase offsets. They are surprisingly affordable. You get a cool magnet for your carbon offset fridge and home or bumpersticker for your carbon offset car or travel badge for your suitcase for your carbon offset flights. It's a great feeling! I don't really sport the bumper stickers on any car but I can see that being important if you have a fancy sports car and want to look and feel responsible.
