Rainy Days' Silver Lining: Marimekko Umbrella!

3 ›
Apr 14, 2011 in Fashion
Even superstitions can't get in the way of my appreciation of the sample Marimekko umbrella in the '60s "Papajo" print by Annika Rimala ($49), which arrived at my desk today and reminded me how a little fashionable gesture can brighten even the gloomiest days!

It's supercute and a dramatic improvement from my broken-winged black cheapie stuck in my trunk. Yay!

Wicked Halloween Cupcake Ideas

8 ›
Sep 29, 2010 in Home & Beyond
Want some tasty Halloween cupcake ideas that are crazy-easy to make?

Check out the 5 fun cupcake decorating ideas I created for Every Day with Rachael Ray magazine (including the two featured above...these photos are my samples I sent to them; the final photos were taken by Rach's in-house team).

The genius is you don't even need to make the cupcakes from scratch. Just buy unfrosted cupcakes and a few edible decorations--all of which are available at your local supermarket--and you've got wicked-cool desserts for the whole family.

Heaven and Hell Halloween Party

5 ›
A few years back I was commissioned by Rachael Ray's magazine to put together a Halloween party. Given how much I dread the notion of having to come up with a clever getup, I decided the best thing to do was create a party where people could come in their favorite party outfit and add "Halloween" flair when they walked in the door. Hence, the Heaven and Hell Party (that's me in the orange), where guests choose whether to wear a halo or horns and get to nosh on white and red stuff (I'm much more creative with food and decor than outfits!)

If you're looking for good, easy-to-do party ideas, check it out.

A Motley Crew of Trick-or-Treaters

Sep 28, 2010 in Fashion
My Kaboodle comrades asked me to post something about Halloween, my favorite holiday of the year that used to be my least favorite.

I've never been big on dressing up. I'm too much of a perfectionist to throw something lame together, but too busy to work on something spectacular.

However, now that I have a daughter, the holiday excitement is new again. After all, look how freaking cute all of her trick-or-treating posse is.

There is truly nothing more adorable than a bunch of kids heading out to seek their sweets fortune.

FYI, my girl is in the pink.

WIW: Nautical Monday

13 ›
Jul 19, 2010 in Fashion
Since I almost always reach for the same handful of wardrobe favorites, just this morning I challenged myself to try to wear everything in my closet over the next few weeks.

So, the inspiration for this outfit was the sweater, which I bought at Old Navy more than a month ago but had yet to wear. Paired with a cute pair of old Margaret O'Leary pants that I couldn't fit into for the past two years until now (thanks to a three-week cleanse), it's casual Monday!

Finishing the look is a new pair of the latest style of Crocs, which the company sent me to test out. They shocked the heck out of Kaboodle HQ workmates, many of whom saw the brand through rubber-clog glasses so to speak. By all accounts (including that of my extremely fashion fickle husband), they are surprisingly cute, extremely comfy, and far harder to get dirty than canvas versions. Cool with me.
