A Gadgets and Gizmos blogazine by kabroskie

Hey, everyone!
Well, after a bit of a nasty breakup from my previous employer, I've been working with a new wedding photographer.  She was nice enough to give me a copy of all the unedited shots I took.  I got it today, and just spent the last few hours editing.
Due to budget constraints, my (lack of) gear is preventing me from branching out and working on my own.
I'd really appreciate some feedback on my stuff.  Check out the set on flickr here!

Thanks everyone, I appreciate it!!

SUCK UK - Message Tape
Kaboodle Tape!
Hey all!

Recently, Mikhail and I were given a roll of Pixel Message Tape.  The package was opened last night, and fun (at Mikhail's expense) ensued.

This stuff is pretty cool, but I do have a few gripes.  First off, it's almost impossible to tear, so you have to cut it.  Also, the black marker ("Marker Pen") rubs off SO easily, and will even come off when you remove it from the roll, so you have to touch it up after you adhere it to something.

But, that aside, it is pretty cool stuff.  It makes for some cool wall decorations, along with Beavis and Butthead posters, lol.

Airzooka Air Gun

Hey all, I thought I’d take a quick second to talk about the one and only AIRZOOKA!  That’s right, Airzooka!  The Airzooka is seriously one of the coolest toys I’ve ever owned.

Apparently, as of late, Nerf guns have become all the rage in the SFW office battle categories, but Nerf guns have one huge disadvantage over the Airzooka…  Ammo!

Growing up as a guy, guns like Super Soakers and Nerf guns were where it was at.  I loved my cheap Nerf guns, and my awesome backpack of water Super Soaker, but I don’t have very fond memories of having to refill my Super Soaker four times more often as all the other neighborhood kids, or having to scramble around the living room, looking for all the tiny Nerf darts, to reload my 2-shots-until-empty Nerf gun...  I digress.

But this is why I love the Airzooka!  There’s no need to stop to reload!

Now, armed with the Airzooka, which has been proven to be powerful enough to startle unsuspecting victims from the distance of the length of an entire “Kabroskie’s Apartment” away, you’ll be the talk of the office when you blast your grumpy boss’ toupee clear across the conference room, or land a well placed “Air-ball” (as I’ve named them) right in the stack of important papers, starting an impromptu game of 52 pickup at the expense of your cube-mate.

The Airzooka is a pretty large firearm, and it’s awesome pop-up aiming reticle make you feel pretty freakin’ cool before you even draw back what I can only describe as a thick plastic bag on a rubber band.  Releasing the Air-ball is pretty satisfying, but not as great as the look you’ll get when someone 25 feet away receives a surprising air blast that makes even the manliest recoil in shock.  Should the Air-ball miss the targets face, they are treated to an awe inducing whoosh as the Air-ball whizzes past their ear.

Airzooka?  Definitely Kabroskie approved!

Hey everyone!

So, about a week ago, I found (what I thought) was an awesome little invention, a keychain that had 2 full Atari 2600 games built in!  On the surface, that sounds pretty cool, but minutes after opening the package I was severely disappointed.

To start, the keychain, while small, has a ridiculously long joystick.  It's a keychain, which usually goes in pockets (at least, for dudes), and It is almost as long as a stick of chapstick!  I couldn't imagine walking around with a stick of chapstick digging into my leg all day.

The second disappointing part is the cable box thing.  There are 3 cables, 2 RCA jacks for your tv, and one power cable for the keychain/controller.  The cable box thing requires 3 AAA batteries, which is such a drag.  I don't know what is wrong with AA, but thats a different Blogazine...  All three cables are able to be wound around the box thing, but the stupid box is MASSIVE compared to the controller.  I wouldn't want to have to carry around a big dumb thing with cables falling out of it, AND a keychain.  They should have just consolodated it or something, poor design, I'm 0% impressed.

I am very bummed I bought this thing, as can be reflected by my quick, poorly shot photos.  The two games play fine, but for about the same price, they sell full size plug and play Atari 2600 controllers with at least 10 games.  The keychain is whack.

Edit:  (Thanks Naominh)
The two games are millipede and asteroids.

Multi-Color LED Lightbulb...

Hey everyone!

I think I’m going to branch out from just the camera thing and “Blogazine" about other cool stuff.

I’ll start off with the Multi-Color LED Lightbulb I bought a few weeks ago.  I understand that this was very popular on Kaboodle before my time, but I thought I’d offer my opinion on it.

To start, it is very cool.  There are seemingly endless amounts of colors that this bulb can pump out.  The remote control is very responsive, and only a few times has the signal not made it to the LED.  There are different modes, including a slow fade between all the colors, and a programmable strobe.

I do have a few gripes about it though, gripes that would have deterred me from buying it in the first place.  The light is very directional, it shines like a flashlight straight out of the top.  Now, that could be a plus if you were wanting to light an object in your house specifically, but not to light a room.  I was attracted to the option of having just a plain white light, so I could use it for my regular room light when I didn’t want to have a crazy colored room.  Unfortunately, the white light is very dim, which is extremely disappointing.  It puts off more light than my computer monitor, so there isn’t really any point of having it on.

If you are looking for a cool, dynamic light to add accent to something specific in your home, I give this light a thumbs up.  If not, skip it.
