Live aquarium plants have many advantages over fake plants. Obviously they are more realistic looking. But there's a lot more to it than that. For example, there are lots of species of live aquarium plants, each with their own care-taking requirements and guidelines. The last thing you want to do, after all, is mess up the biological and aesthetic atmosphere of your aquarium by choosing the wrong plants and then having them die. This can be a huge mess!

The resource below at AquariumHobbiests.com lists all kinds of live aquarium plants you can put in your aquarium. It also provides a guide to live aquarium plants and types, aquarium plant supplies from Amazon.com, and many great links related to live aquarium plants. For both beginners and veterans alike, it is a great resource to get you started on live aquarium plant hobbying.

For those out there interested in starting an aquarium hobby, there are a couple of ways you can go about getting the actual aquarium itself. The first is to simply buy your own. Your local pet store will likely have what you're looking for if you're a first timer. Common sizes include the ten gallon and 20 gallon sizes. Fish tanks, of course, come in all different shapes and sizes and volumes. If you're simply looking for something to get you started, the pet store will be your best bet.

If you're already an advanced aquariast who's looking to expand a bit and get into something bigger, another option is to build your own fish tank. This can be both an adventurous and arduous task, but it has several advantages over buying an aquarium. The biggest advantage, of course, is that you can build it to your own specs and it can be however big you want. Chances are, that's what you're looking for when you build your own fish tank.

A good resource for learning how to build your own fish tank, including dos and donts, tips and tricks and lots of other diy resources can be found here: Build Your Own Fish Tank. (http://www.aquariumhobbiests.com/build-your-own-fish-tank/build-your-own-fish-tank.php). AquariumHobbiests.com also has many other great aquarium articles and supplies.

Good luck building your own fish tank. Prepare for a long, yet satisfying journey.
