Here we go...
I got engaged last Christmas Eve to the most wonderful-fun-a-licious man ever! hehe
We immediately started planning our wedding.
However there were a few life changing events that were taking place. ONE...my daughter had her baby in March...within 2 weeks after his birth; we were living with my sister & husband at that time, I got into a big wicked fight with my sisters husband-which was awful...so I decided to move out...I had to find something cheap but in a good location. I was working full-time PLUS going full-time to school!! So in one week I found a 1 bedroom apt right across from campus, called in a storage unit to store all my belonging because my apt. was only 450 sq. feet! YEAH-SCARY! So I moved my little family...I just moved into a cute 1950's house this past October but I had all this stress of finding a house ASAP before my lease went out. Plus I had so much daughter-grand baby drama that during the summer I stopped all wedding planning. BUT...my fiance and I had the majority of everything planned out by March!
So...our original wedding date was April 25th but many of the churches were not having weddings in April because of many Easter-and other religious events...so we changed it to May 2nd.
We needed a hall...but my fiance and I are paying for the wedding ourselves since we are mature adults-over 30...(34 & 36) and it just seemed right, but we also have a budget. Halls that I liked were way over $3000+all extras...so we had to go with this Veteran's Hall, which I don't really like but it's the only one that is affordable and can hold as many guest as we have...275!!
We have cut the list many times from 378-350-300-280...so on & so on...it was like the episode of "Father of the Bride", where the father says they're not leaving the table until the list is cut. We are now down to 265. My future father-in-law has graciously offered to pay for our caterer! Yeah!!
We have priced the flowers....they don't come cheap...CHERRY BLOSSOMS IN ARIZONA ARE NON-EXISTENT! That's why they are so expensive...even artificial cherry blossoms are a lot...so I found Tiger Orchids...artificial..same effect...but way cheaper...and the other flower is a Satin Peony-large white peony with a blush of pink! Gorgeous! BUT...The Fiance and I differ in the flowers! ugh...who would've thought a Groom would care about the flowers and all the planning....WELCOME to my world!...we have argued about the flowers over and over...
I envisioned the beauty of "Memoirs of a Geisha", when they're performing on stage, and all the strands of cherry blossoms are coming down from the ceiling...just beautiful....his idea is a Japanese dinner with minimal stuff!...so we've been knocking heads about the flower arrangements. To make matters worse, after we agreed on the arrangements, we find out that the hall does not have round tables, like they originally said they did...but have long 7x3 ft tables! Back to drawing board...to redo the arrangements, which are looking to have Japanese lanterns with my Tiger Orchids, which my mother and I have been purchasing through-out this past year.
My co-worker who also has a Cake business on the side is making our cake for free, it's our wedding gift from her! yeah! My fiance's uncle owns a Linen shop so we have our table cloths and napkins checked. My fiance designed our wedding invitations and his other uncle owns a printing shop...so we get them discounted!
Now it's crunch time...we still need a photographer, which does not come cheap...I need chair covers...my bridal party is undressed...I still have to purchase my wedding dress (probably after my taxes are done!) and I have to meet with our florist to see if she can make my Hello Kitty bouquets! Woo-Hoo!!
I have tons of flowers to purchase still...I know people will take center pieces home...which I'm iffy about but what will I do with 34 center pieces! LOL....start a Wedding Planning Business! LOL...more to come..............
