This is one of my high-end gallery pieces: note that this piece will be professionally packed and shipped by UPS in order to ensure safe delivery! The scarab is the symbol of Ra, the Sun God of the Egyptians. Scarab beetles lay their eggs in dung, which they roll into a ball and roll into a hole. The Egyptians equated this with the movement of the sun and its daily resurrection. The opening and closing of the scarab's colorful wings symbolized night and day. (source: About.com) This piece uses the large beetle Allomyrina dichotomus politus (actually a Dynastid beetle, a large relative of the smaller scarab beetle. This particular specimen is from Thailand) and the small weevils Celebia arrigans from Indonesia. This Dynastid beetle is huge, measuring nearly 4 inches in either direction. Each weevil is about an inch in length. Their background was painted by me. The large beetle's wings have been gold-leafed by me as well (yes, it's real gold). Here's one of my favorite designs! One dozen cicadas come together to make a beautiful pattern full of color and lines. All together, they remind me of the view inside a kaleidoscope. Ten of the cicadas come from the tropical regions of Indonesia; they're nothing like we have here in the United States! At first glance, you might even mistake them for butterflies, they are so colorful. The remaining two were collected right here in my backyard, to contrast with the tropical species. Their frame is made from an elegant black wooden frame with gold antiquing, and measures approx. 11x13 inches. All are arranged on a honey-colored background. The cicada species here are: Ambragaena ambra (brown), Glanea laosensis (orange), Tailainga binghami (b&w), Hueschy sp. (red), and two native cicadas (green). This display looks very formal and elegant, while still retaining natural and fun qualities. It comes ready to hang or stand upright. Thanks for looking! See less

WHAT: An alarm clock that wakes you up with the smell and sizzle of cooking bacon. WHY: No one likes to wake up, especially by an alarm. This clock gently wakes you up with the mouthwatering aroma of bacon, just like waking up on a Sunday morning to the smell of Mom cooking breakfast. Unless you're Jewish. HOW: A frozen strip of bacon is placed in Wake n' Bacon the night before. Because there is a 10 minute cooking time, the clock is set to go off 10 minutes before the desired waking time. Once the alarm goes off, the clock it sends a signal to a small speaker to generate the alarm sound. We hacked the clock so that the signal is re-routed by a microchip that in responds by sending a signal to a relay that throws the switch to power two halogen lamps that slow-cook the bacon in about 10 minutes. Owning a carbonite Han Solo prop is cool enough, but when the ultimate Star Wars collectible prop is converted into a desk for the office...well - wow! This incredible Empire Strikes Back themed desk is constructed of metal and fiberglass (sadly, not actual carbonite), has glowing orange panels straight out of Cloud City and is topped with a sturdy 1/2" thick glass table top. I have always held out hope that the coolest ice cubes in the galaxy, shaped like Han Solo Frozen in Carbonite from Star Wars, would one day find their way into my freezer. The Force must be strong with me, because coming soon is the incredibly cool new Han Solo Frozen in Carbonite Ice Cube Tray with R2-D2 Ice Bucket ($33)! I don't have all the details yet, since this is still a pre-order item, but it appears that you can make up to 4 frozen Han Solo "ice cubes" in the tray at a time. After they have survived the freezing chamber and appear to be in perfect hibernation, they can then be loaded into the equally cool R2-D2 ice bucket. Simply remove Artoo's dome head and fill him up with frozen Han Solos or just regular old boring ice cubes if that's all you have. No home cantina would be complete without this set.
