I must have been about fourteen when my family took a trip to Baltimore, but I can't remember why we went there. Our usual trips involved camping by Colorado's Great Sand Dunes or visiting the bayou in Louisiana. Baltimore, in comparison, seemed just too normal. And, it was too normal. So normal, in fact, that I've completely forgotten what we did, with one exception - the American Visionary Art Museum. This museum was bursting with color, intrigue, and aesthetic wonders, much like these heels. I see the similarities everywhere. The rays of stitching that reach up to the scalloped top and the heart-bedecked ribbons that tie the top closed channel the fun, lighthearted feel of the room I saw whose ceiling was covered in a sea of fake red carnations and upside down model white doves. The vibrant Persian indigo suede recalls the colorful mandala that a group of saffron-clad monks were carefully laying out on the third floor.
