This is the first in my new series "you reap what you sew". You reap what you sew no. 1 is embroidered in slate and wine on beautiful homespun linen that is between 80-120 years old. The embroiderer holds a needle and thread and is in the process of stitching another woman.The porcelain doll arm is from Germany and was dug from the earth from the grounds of an old doll factory that operated between 1890-1920. The piece is framed in a vintage metal embroidery hoop that is 9 inches wide and 4 3/4 inches tall. The piece is backed with wool felt and is signed and dated on the back. It hangs with a simple lace ribbon. This is a made to order item. Please allow for slight variations and 4 days for me to make your embroidery prior to shipping. I will send photos of the completed piece prior to shipping to make sure the it is to your liking. If you'd like to change the color of the dresses please let me know. While I studied costume design, we always referred to the "silhouette" of different looks and time periods. I find costume history so inspiring and enjoyable and decided to create my own little silhouettes of some of my favorite vintage styles. Reticule is the name for small purses/handbags that were fashionable when this silhouette was in vogue (c.1913). Women had gone through phases of carrying no purse, to a chatelaine, or a long tube-shaped pouch; but during this period in fashion history it was advisable to have a small, embellished handbag to go with your ensemble. It was also popular for a stylish lady to carry a doll with her that wore an exact miniature replica of her outfit, complete with tiny purse! I have repurposed/upcycled a small wooden plate that, in it's former life, had an inspirational quote painted on it and was to be hung on a wall. This assemblage is accented with vintage green tassel trim and an upcycled vintage eyeglasses chain as a hanger. My embroidery... See less

See the next photo…) You can use that outermost row of holes to sew a disc to fabric - or sew on that aforementioned jump ring. Just match your thread color to the embroidery, and your stitches will be invisible. (Another possibility: you could glue a felt backing to these, and add a little thread shank, and you’d have some awfully cool buttons.)
