We are doing a small wedding for under $3000. You don't have to elope to do that, you just have to be smart and cut out all the extravagant choices for the wedding. Keep it simple. Posted by kitti2karen at 1:44 AM on 8/29/07 Report Spam

Have the small wedding its supposed to be a special day shared with your family. You'll get your house, etc.... theres no time limit. Posted by blackdiamond30 at 12:07 PM on 9/29/07 Report Spam

My husband and I eloped, but I still had a floor-length white dress and a maid of Honor. (She eloped with us, although, it should be noted, not on the honeymoon. :-) When you elope, you are just as married as if you had a big ceremony, but you have money left to start your life together. When we got back both of our families threw seperate receptions for us. (Our families live far away from each other.) So we ended up with two parties instead of one, and we didn't have to pay for it. Barbados or Bahamas or someplace warm and tropical. St Thomas...get married on the beach! Posted by caribbrz at 8:53 PM on 10/1/07 Report Spam

I have always been a fan of the get hitched on your own and throw a party for your friends plan. I would invite the folks to the ceremony (if you want) and then throw a modest party at your convinience for your friends and certain reletives with drinks, food, and fun. most people hate the wedding part of the wedding anyway. anyway congrats! If you elope, you risk hurting people's feelings, and people probably won't give you wedding gifts. Still, you should be able to plan a nice wedding inexpensively. Pick what is most important to splurge, and be conservative on everything else. But STAY AWAY from David's Bridal...those folks will send you spam every day for a long time.
