On the vast, empty salt plateau, a tiny pink building stands alone. It was built only recently over one of the hundreds of tombs at this site. Excavated only a decade ago, the tombs date back thousands of years. In this 2,600 year old tomb, you can see, a few meters down through the plexiglass cover, fourteen naturally mummified bodies, in their bright woollen clothes with their variety of funerary offerings in excellent condition, looking as if they had been placed quite recently. Several of the mummies are shown in the image to the left, the museum entry ticket. You can also observe, close up, two 2,400 year old mummies in display cases, a husband and wife that had been buried together in a separate tomb nearby. See less

Old English (also called Anglo-Saxon, Old English: Englisc) is an early form of the English language that was spoken in parts of what is now England and southern Scotland between the mid-fifth century and the mid-twelfth century. It is a West Germanic language and therefore is closely related to Old Frisian and Old Saxon. It also experienced heavy influence from Old Norse, a member of the related North Germanic group of languages. It is also closely related to German and Dutch. See less

The House of Plantagenet ruled England from 1154 -1485, they were a remarkable family, producing such characters as the energetic Henry II, arguably one of England's greatest monarchs and his legenday son, Richard the Lionheart, who lead the Third Crusade into the Holy Land. The indominatable Edward I, who conquered Wales and became known as the 'Hammer of the Scots' for his campaigns into that country, where he fought William Wallace and Robert the Bruce, the most famous of Scotland's sons. The Plantagenets finally destroyed themselves in the bloody dynastic struggle we know of as the Wars of the Roses. Richard III was the last of the Plantagenets, when he was killed in battle on Bosworth Field it was the end of an era. See less

It contains a short biography of each English monarch along with many illustrations, maps ( where applicable ) and genealogical tables, in an easy to follow format arranged by dynasties.
