This pet hosptial was where we took our last pet when he was ill. I cannot stress how friendly, supportive and loving the staff were and how they were so very experienced, knowledgeable and helpful. This is a state of the art facility - someithing akin to a "human" hospital! This animal care facility was a lot more sophisticated and advanced than ones I had been to in the past - it even offered chemo, radiation, ultrasounds and exrays for animals, which I found very impressive. Above all, the caring staff made this experience a positive one for me and I would recommend this place to anyone who has a pet that needs some TLC! See less

Unlike its cousin the Cardigan Welsh Corgi, the Pembroke does not have Dachshund characteristics. Corgis are heelers, used as a working breed to herd livestock much the same as the Australian Cattle Dog. Various folklore attributes the name 'Corgi' to Celtic origins (Corgi being Celtic for 'dog') or alternatively to the Welsh phrases, Cur meaning 'to watch over' and gi meaning 'dog'. The Pembroke is said be a descendant of dogs owned by Flemish weavers who settled in west Wales. It also bears a striking resemblance to the Swedish Vallhund, suggesting a link perhaps brought about by viking invaders in the ninth century. Queen Elizabeth II has owned more than 30 Pembroke Welsh Corgis since 1944 when she was given her first, Susan, as an 18th birthday present. Go to obedience training classes if you haven't done so already, or have done only a little. We recommend classes that teach positive training, using praise and treats, as opposed to methods that emphasize punishment. Dog should understand that they depend on you, the leader. No free-feeding. Feed once or twice a day and take the food away after 10-15 minutes. It should be very clear that you are the food-giver. "Nothing in life is free." Treats must be earned. Require at least a sit or a simple trick every time your dog receives a treat. Leaders eat first. Sit down, eat your breakfast or dinner, and only then give dog its food. Leaders go first.
