By Amy Sedaris. Just because I love everything Amy Sedaris does DOESN'T mean that I was certain I would love this book. I bought this book with some hesitation, not sure if her humor would translate well to the written word. But it does! And it's HILARIOUS! As I sit on my couch in the evenings and read this book, I have to constantly read excerpts aloud to my husband in response to the question, "What's so funny?" But all wit aside, the book is embedded with good recipes and tips, which is why I keep it with my collection of cookbooks - because it is a real cookbook along with a wealth of pure entertainment. I bought this book thinking that I could relate to the main character Amanda, a fulltime mother with two small children. After a couple of chapters the book went in a completly different direction and it focused more on her husband's job at the justice department then on the struggles of being a mom. The end of the book wasn't any better, with Amanda and her baby almost dying but everything being okay because of money. It would be nice if life were like a fairy tale but it's not so I had trouble feeling any compassion for Amanda or any of the characters in the book. Not a very good read. She is the entertainment colomnest for a newspaper in Philly and has asperations to be a writer. One day when out on an interview she makes friends with Hollywood actress Maxie Ryder, whom she gives a screen play that she had written. Added to this he deals with a newly gay mother, her annoying lover, and an ex-boyfriend who has a column in a magizine "Good in Bed" in which he writes about her and their relationship alot.
