How Does It Compare? If you require professional-level video quality, but don't have the budget for a GL2 or VX-2000, then the Panasonic PV-DV953 may be right for you. The video quality is excellent, as you'd expect from a 3CCD camcorder. In low light, though, it wasn't so hot, so keep that in mind. In addition to great video, the 953 takes great still shots too -- for a camcorder. They're a little noisy, but for 4 x 6 prints, it's fine. Panasonic definitely needs to work on the read/write speeds though. Other nice things about the 953 include the manual controls, zebra pattern, zoom microphone, optical image stabilizer, and amazing macro (close-up) ability. We also like the easy to hold, traditional body, and top-loading tape. We're quite impressed with the 953, and are looking forward to trying the PV-GS70, which is also 3CCD, but for $500 less.
