Hello everyone! I have to thank Shellie for filling in this week. She encouraged me to share my exciting news with our loyal Craft Gossip readers…. I am excited to announce that my new brick and mortar store Urban Fauna Studio is opening its doors in less then two days! Urban Fauna Studio (USF) is the brick and mortar incarnation my fiber web shop Mary Jane’s Attic. UFS will sell Indie and green craft supplies and tools. The store offerings will focus on fiber arts such as spinning, knitting, felting and weaving with some paper craft supplies, instructional books, sewing projects and handmade gift items. UFS will also sell one of a kind handmade goods from popular indie artists! We will also offer a revolving series of arts and crafts workshops. This is a very small needle felted dragon that I made for my mom, who wanted a dragon that could sit on the hand of a Super Dollfie. He also sits great on my fingers! More pictures of this guy to come as I take them. Needle felting, for those unfamiliar with it, is a technique that uses special barbed needles to essentially create a 'wool sculpture'. It's the same way they make the felt you buy in stores, except that by only using one needle at a time and adding wool as you go, you can control the shape of the felt. I'm still a beginner, but I'm working at it! He is made out of natural wools from the Iron Horse Farm, a local fiber farm, and the Flying Ewe, a fiber arts website. I’ve been in a mini-mood lately when it comes to baking and these bite-sized pies met my big craving. They are really, really easy. Let me show ya. Of course, it didn’t hurt that I used ready to roll refrigerated pie crust. It comes two to a box and if you roll each round pie crust a little bit thinner with a rolling pin, you can get 24 mini pumpkin-shaped pie crusts out of them. Make sure you use all the dough scraps and re-roll to maximize quantities. Then, stuff each one in a mini muffin baking pan. This one holds 24. Press the dough down, in and around the edge of each muffin cup. Make sure the stem for the pumpkin stays sticking out. You’ll notice I alternated cups above. I did this mainly to make sure the pie crusts didn’t touch each other. So I ended up baking these in two batches. Fill each pie crust with pumpkin filling all the way to the top. When they come out of the oven, they’ll be puffed up like this. Too bad they didn’t stay that way. That would be pretty darn cute. But... See less

1. Begin by using your wire cutters to cut 1.5 inch lengths of wire. You’ll need one per crystal. (see figure 1) 2. Bend your wire into a “Shepard’s hook” shape. I bent mine over a pencil to make a nice curve. (see figure 1) 3. At the very end of one of you rock candy strings, put a generous glob of hot glue. Stick the end of the hook into the glue, and hold until it has cooled. If it wiggles a bit, add another dab to secure it. (see figure 2) 4. Cut a length of ribbon, about 10 inches long and tie a knot, then a bow around the wire at the top of the crystal. Trim your ribbon tails. 5. Hang your completed crystals anywhere that needs a little sparkle; on bare branches in a vase, from a tree, in a floral arrangement, from garland or an arch. If you’re feeling extra crafty, construct an armature and hang the crystals from it like a chandelier. I had you going, didn’t I? I bet you thought I was talking about some sort of savory cupcake. Well, it is in a way. When I was starting seeds with the little peat pellets I thought they looked an awful lot like unfinished cupcakes. So I gathered together some of my extra herb seeds and made these cute little earthy delights. It’s wrapped in a paper baking cup and decorated just a bit, including a nice label. Perfect to just drop in a pot on the window sill. Now who wouldn’t want to get a tray of these as a gift? A lot less calories than the sweet kind and last a lot longer, too. See less
