Philip K Dick's novels have become hugely popular for film makers to shoot down the years and that's a testament to the author's imagination and style. In this instance Dick used his first hand experience of drug abuse as inspiration. Reeves plays an undercover narcotics cop attempting to infiltrate a gang of drug users as part of a war on a new and highly addictive drug. The lines between fantasy and reality, however, soon become blurred for Reeves' character, as he finds it difficult to juggle his life as a Narc with his increasing paranoia and drug addiction. The film was shot using a technique known as Rotoscoping which purposely gives the film a surreal, skewed and sinister style reflecting the experiences of the characters and is worth a watch for this alone.
