About the Artwork Don Li-Leger's artwork is a medley of the abstract and the familiar. The British Columbian, who has painted since childhood, was educated at Vancouver School of Art and Banff Centre School of Fine Art. Li-Leger also studied plant ecology at Simon Fraser University. Initially depicting birds and animals of his native province, Li-Leger's creative vision shifted following trips to the Orient and North American wildlife sanctuaries. He's also been influenced by wife Cora's forays into art as therapy. Amidst his use of calligraphy, collages and improvisational forms, nature remains an underlying theme in Li-Leger's work, such as "Poppy Nine Patch." It is cleverly created from nine individual pieces which glow in warm, vivid reds and golds, and is delicately embellished with Asian-influenced florals. See less
