Own the Canon EOS Digital Rebel (DS6041) Thinking of upgrading to this camera, not sure yet.

As an owner of a 40D, I can absolutely vouch for this camera. You can get them for cheap, as well. Lots of wonderful features, including a wide range of ISO's, and total ease of use in terms of controls. If you get your hands on one, even just to try it, you'll love it. It feels very solid, and it has a nice size body... something you can wrap your hands around, lol.So, yeah, I love my 40D.

awesome that is what others have told me as well thank you for your input

This is what I wanted when I recently bought my first DSLR. Couldn't justify a couple rent payments though. :(

Awesome line of cameras -- I have the 30D and it is a great piece of equipment. Features are intuitive and camera itself feels very solid. :)

Honestly, I really don't recommend this camera. For the price, you could get a 40D and a nice lens, or save a bit more, and buy the 5d Mk I. Sure, the numbers are nice, 15 megapixels, digic 4, but it just feels like the 40d + bells and whistles.

I have nothing pretty to say about the Rebel series. Why get the Toyota Corolla, if you could get a BMW for just a little bit more?

agreed! I own one, but five years ago it was 900.00! so it was all I could afford! My we have jumped leaps and bounds in five years! When I was in art school 14 years ago (I'm dating myself) we had one digital class in the whole commercial photography program, that seems crazy now!

Um, so which camera exactly is the BMW model you were referring to?

Just bought this a month ago, and WOW! Definitely recommend. Photos are crystal clear, and the 1.4 is wonderful for low-light shooting. I went to Walt Disney World last week and took some amazing fireworks shots. Definitely worth every penny if you're considering it. :)

I just bought this lens, too. Great for single person portrait style photos, but I'm wondering if I should have gotten the tamron 28-80zoom instead for more flexibility.

List Comments

One of the greatest things about digital photography for me; besides the fact that I am now happy with the outcome (which I probabaly would not have said even three years ago) is that you don't have to cart so much crap around with you anymore!

I infinitely love this list!

I seriously don't need to be looking at this list....

OMG I wish I knew how to take cool pictures

This list pulls together a bunch of good, standard equipment with some really interesting finds -- great work!Your school had a digital camera 14 years ago? I'm impressed: at that time I ran the biggest camera club on our campus, and we were happy to have an EOS Elan, which I heard from the art students was nicer than anything they had.

No Zow we didn't have digital, in fact in the world of digital I am a complete newbie, I wasn't sold on digital until about mid-2006 that is when I felt like the technology, camera, scanner, computer, printing process finally started to impress me! Now I am trying to catch up! I have the film camera knowledge that puts me at an advantage for taking decent pictures, but I am lacking in some of the areas of digital (read camera processors, now the lens work with the various processors, now this relates in a way I can understand!) (also lens focal length and many other concepts that work differently than film mediums). But I am learning! :)

We had a digital (concepts) class! No camera, just concepts that didn't make any sense to us then!

Ah, class! Yes, okay. I don't think we had a digital class for 2D/photography -- I took the 3D class which was more architectural and product design. It was the only class I took from the fine arts department. There's a great story there, but too long to fill up your list comments with.I agree that digital has only gotten here recently. I actually did a lot of digital in the '90's by shooting slide, scanning to photo CD and working from there. I haven't made the digital SLR switch yet. Heck, I never made the switch to autofocus SLRs: I still use my Cannon F1N. When I do switch that platform, it's going to have to be to something with a full-frame sensor like the EOS-5D mk 2... so you understand why I haven't switched yet. I'm actually shooting mostly with my Pentax P&S these days, which is what replaced my Olympus Stylus as the tiny camera I carry everywhere with me. I've got shots both from SLR scanned to photo CD and my Pentax on my Picassa site, which I've got a link to from my profile.
