I like to use fine silver for this piece because it requires a lot of forging with my hammer. Because I’m using fine silver I use a thicker piece metal to compensate for the softness of the pure metal. It is a bit of a process to make each ring, but I love to forge these! No two rings are ever the same because each one is made from scratch. The specs: Fine Silver. The top measures aprox. 1” and the band is 1/4” wide. Overall weight of the ring is 1/3 of an ounce. The flower is approximately 1.6 cm ( 11/16 in) wide. I've soldered a "pebble" of sterling silver to the middle of the flower and then soldered the flower to a band that measures 2 mm. I've added a beautiful patina and then sealed them to protect the color. Miners lettuce is known as a lusciously green plant that shoots up in early spring and feeds those unfortunate souls that get lost in the forest. Although incredible in its prime as it begins to decay in the hot summer months. It becomes wrinkly, crunchy, and riddled with holes. This ring represents this decay. Shortly before the plant begins to die it shoots out a stem with multiple little flowers attached to it. This is where the idea for the stem on this ring came from. I twisted reality slightly, but thats the fun part. The leaves are thoroughly perforated with holes of various sizes, and the silver was treated with a patina to darken the surface , with a banding effect. I buffed out the underside in order to expose the silver around the band, and gave the rim around the leaves a polish. This ring will be sent nestled inside its very own custom made box. I found the wood in a burn pile last year, it is super old and has a lot of character. See less
