Here is an adorable way to use one of our tins. Julie Balzer created a darling shadow box to hold a cherished keepsake... her grandmother's locket. To create this shadow box: 1. Cut a piece of paper to fit the inside back of the tin. Don't forget to round the corners. 2. Adhere buttons (using glue dots) to front of tin around the clear window. 3. Glue mementos into shadow box. 4. Place lid on box. One of the great things about this shadow box is the lid is removable, so if Julie ever wants to wear the locket, she can. IF YOU ARE GOING TO TRY IT, PLEASE, MAKE SURE TO WEAR GLASSES OR GOGGLES TO PROTECT YOUR EYES. THE DRILLING CREATES A VERY THIN GLASS DUST THAT CAN EASILY GET IN THE EYES. FOR THE SAME REASON, YOU SHOULD ALSO WEAR A MASK AND WORK GLOVES. I WILL NEXT TIME. THE DRILL BIT GETS VERY HOT AND IT COULD EASILY MAKE THE GLASS SHATTER. IT'S A GOOD IDEA TO STOP EVERY 10 MINUTES AND LET IT COOL OFF (AND GIVE YOUR ARMS A REST!) WHEN YOU GET CLOSER TO THE END BE VERY CAREFUL NOT TO PUT PRESSURE ON THE DRILL. LASTLY, I AM GOING TO TRY TO FIND A GLASS FILE TO SMOOTH THE OPENING BEFORE INSERTING THE STRING AS THE RIM OF THE HOLE IS VERY SHARP. I ENDED UP PUSHING THE LIGHTS VERY GENTLY WITH... See less

Just a quick post to show you the door-knocker I made for the cottage! I was inspired by THIS POST of Corey's, with those wonderful French hand-knockers, and decided to make my own. I found a small doll arm, and cut it in half with a pair of snippers... See more

Just a quick post to show you the door-knocker I made for the cottage! I was inspired by THIS POST of Corey's, with those wonderful French hand-knockers, and decided to make my own. I found a small doll arm, and cut it in half with a pair of snippers - who would of guessed that it would work? but it did! A little 'apoxy sculpt' on the top part of the arm finished it off with a bow. Then I created a small tile for the back - out of leaf beads and added a 'red apple' bead in the palm! My second guessing said this could be seen as a bit MACABRE for a 'Little Red Riding Hood' story, but then one shouldn't second guess oneself - right??? See less

I've built up a bit of inventory to be painted. It's overwhelming, even for me.(and this is only about a third of it. The rest is my workshop!) It's all so inspiring. Every piece a new project, a new blank slate just waiting to be re-invented. I love it. Beds, tables, chairs and dressers. Odds and ends. wallpaper, knobs, and fringe. I get so many ideas flowing through my head when I look at each piece that it is hard to know where to begin. And colors. Gosh, I can envision each piece in a multitude of colors, so I have to decide on a theme to get myself going. I like to do my pieces in groups, so they show better in the shop. Today I do believe I will tackle the vintage high chair, a little table or two, and maybe the rocking horse....(hmmm, looks like a baby theme is emerging here...) This should be fun! I have some darling washable felt booties and cute patchwork burpies to add to this collection, so this is truly going to be sweet as can be. See less

I know it sounds like I was joking about the cats and the crochet, but I don't think they were. I wasn't up here five minutes, blocking these squares, before I had a visitor, apparently come to check on the progress on her blanket. I pinned these squares out to eight inches and sprayed them on the bed. The quilt, which had been under the ripple blanket for this treatment a few days before, was totally wrinkled, so I guess I did get some water on that one after all. The Bee is quite curious about her 'ghan. I was up here throughout the day, checking these squares and adding new ones, and every time I walked in that room, Bridget (the Bee) would come, seemingly out of nowhere, and perch nosily on bed, to see what we were doing now. Unlike Violet, who has a hefty sense of entitlement (and whose palate is aesthetically undiscriminating), the Bee seems rather more interested. But her interest has a scary, nerve-wracking quality, as if the headmistress is looking over your shoulder, making... See less
