The tree stump has age rings, a little branch off to the side and a tiny little leaf at the top. It's handformed by me from light weight polymer clay, baked off and then double glazed in a satin finish for durability. This necklace took forever to develop, and I've finally touched upon a version that I love. It's a modified cast of a cocktail skewer from the historic Waldorf Astoria hotel in New York City. Here's a brief history of this piece: I bought the original thin stamped-metal cocktail pick at the Maine Antiques Fair in 2002. The dealer told me that these kind of picks were used to skewer olives in martinis at the Waldorf Astoria's bar throughout the 1930's and 1940's. I drilled holes at the top of one of the tiny little building's towers and strung it on a chain, and wore this necklace for about a year straight. I've tried to find more skewers with no luck, so I decided to reproduce them, which presented certain problems; casting them didn't work because they were too slender and they just bent at the slightest touch. Finally I found a way to make a triple-thickness, reversible prototype with the same Waldorf Astoria likeness on both sides of the flat pick. I cast this in light-colored brass... See less

The jellyfish measures approx 7/8 inch at its widest point, and 1 7/8 inches from the top of the bale to the longest tentacle.
