I made star tips from triangle square units, also called half square triangles and one of the most common quilting components. I usually make the units by sewing two squares together with two diagonal seams, then slicing them apart midway between the seams to produce two identical triangle square units. The cutting instructions for this pattern match that method. Read the triangle square instructions and make 24 triangle squares. Sew 12 pairs together as shown in the diagram above, with the light fabric forming a "V" between the dark triangles. See less

While you see the design lines in a plastic stencil or a pattern drawn on paper, when the design is quilted you actually see the spaces. This has the following implications: | 1. A design needs to fill an area so that the unquilted space around it does not overpower or diminish it. | 2. Most quilting motifs need a background grid with smaller spaces than those in the motif. This allows the design to be highlighted and is especially important in designs quilted on solid-color fabric. | 3. Unquilted spaces must also be planned rather than accidental. However, it's not a staple in MY household, and actually, I just learned how to make them. My mom made excellent pancakes, so I never had to. And Per made good ones too. Until he forgot how. (A real disaster, that one.) See, we eat pancakes maybe once a year. And this time, he just forgot how he usually makes them. So, a very grumpy Anne decided that it was probably time to just learn it. And it's not hard at all. But it is hard finding a recipe that works for you - everyone has their own preference, and a lot of people just add flour and milk until "just right" - whatever that is. Swedish pancakes are thin, and made without baking powder. They shouldn't be fluffy at all.
