Ten 4' x 8' glazed solar collectors, with selective black chrome coating, heat 500 gallons of water in a well insulated storage tank, which acts as the storage and transfer medium for the thermal energy. A highly efficient LPG fueled boiler provides the additional thermal demand of the house. The space heating system consists of a radiant floor system. Motorized valves controlled by microprocessors allow the system to switch between the solar tank and the LPG fueled boiler, depending on the availability of solar energy. | The house is divided into 9 heating zones, each with its own thermostat. Naturally all the heat collection and transfer pumps and the associated electronic controls are powered by the PV via the inverter. In the summer, when space heating is not required, the thermal energy collected is used to heat the swimming pool and spa through another heat exchanger. Three energy efficient, air-tight, wood burning fireplaces serve as a supplemental source for space heating. |... See less
