Distillery: Lagavulin District: South shore of the isle of Islay Age: 16 Years Cask Type: Unknown Price: $66 Interesting Facts: Lagavulin is the undisputed most critically acclaimed Islay malt. Opinions: Tastes like Lagavulin takes at least as narrow of a cut as Macallan. Islays are usually the rebellious, slice of life, real person Scotches. Lagavulin is all of that dressed up in a tuxedo with its hair slicked back and a rose in its lapel. Recommendations: Definitely a special occasion. Maybe dessert, followed by port wine and blue cheese, and a dram of Lagavulin over heated political discussions? First olfactory impression is musty sea air with seaweed, second is clear smoke and peat. Refreshing, silky smooth body. Fine dining on the pier on a foggy night. Dry, tonic taste is sophisticated and dignified. There is a tasty, full-bodied, distinctive Lagavulin flavor in there that I have not tasted anywhere else. Fine Scotch tastes linger with salty seaweed in the finish. See less
