This is certainly not a tutorial (I don't think I could keep you awake long enough for that), but gives you an idea of how I approached (read, attacked) this chair. Now having become a self-appointed expert in upholstery, I would recommend that you arm yourself with some basic tools before you start. 1) Plenty of fabric (maybe an extra 1 or 2 yards over what you compute- you don't want to spend your time piecing together fabric because you miscut). 2) An electric staple gun (I bought a Stanley at Lowes that worked tremendously). 3) PATIENCE. Think twice, cut once. Lay on the chair frequently to make sure you are thinking the right direction, right piece, etc. The fabric that is. You can lay on the chair as well if that helps. 4) Time- it took me approximately 24 hours to do this chair. I did it over four days, because as I got tired, I didn't make good decisions. 5) Some sort of upholstered furniture. | You'll want a flat edge screwdriver, a pair of pliers and scissors to start... Cute ruffled skirt in Amy Butler's lotus print. The waistband fits 18" up to about 24". The measurement from the top of the waistband to the bottom of the hem is 10.5". (My three year old usually wears them with the waistband just below her little round belly, if that helps when you measure your daughter). There is a velvety ribbon separating the yoke from the ruffled bottom. My daughters have drawers full of these skirts. When they sit down to play they don't ride up and show their underwear like the straighter skirts they have. The fabric was prewashed in warm water and thrown in the dryer before sewing, so there should be no shrinking or color bleeding. See less

Pick out which pieces you want to put together and test it out. They should be able to balance on each other without the glue. If not, you may want to rethink your choices..is your plate too uneven or does your base have a flat enough top? 2. Clean all plates and vases/candlesticks thoroughly. Dry completely. 3. The Supplies - grommet kit, pencil, ruler, scissors, x-acto, hammer, screwdriver, fabric Measuring - mark the center of where you want your grommet, then take the grommet hole punch and center it on your mark, pounding to make an indentation Cutting - use an x-acto to make a X in the resulting circle indentation and then cut out the circle with small scissors Placing Grommet - Right side of fabric: insert the main grommet piece (the one with the protrusion) through the hole. Wrong side of your fabric: place the ring on top of the protrusion with the domed side facing up. The Big Finish - Take the grommet tool and place it on a solid surface, then use a hammer to pound it into place with the wrong side facing up. Hit solidly 5 times. See less

Please take a heavier weight, maybe upholstery quality or home decoration fabric. (My two fabrics in the tutorial are from ikea). -3/4 yard fabric for the lining, this can be also heavy weight or midweight (patchwork-fabric). -interfacings: For the upper piece take something that makes a good stiffness, mine is this, it feels a little bit like cardboard. For the lower piece I use this iron-on volume fleece, a fusible volume fleece with 1/4 inch thickness. -one keyring or D-Ring. -one sew-in snap (1/2 inch diameter) -some fabric glue Cutting pieces: All measures include a 3/8 inch seam allowance. * two 6-ft. oak boards cut into two 5-ft. long sections and two 5-in. long sections * three 4-inch metal L brackets * stud finder * electric drill with drill bits and screwdriver bit * twelve 2 in. long wood screws * (optional) tung oil Instructions: 1. I bought oak boards from Lowe’s and had them cut them to size and cut smaller pieces for the sides. 2. I drilled pilot holes for the screws in the top and bottom board (see picture below) and then screwed each side to the bottom. 3. I mounted the top to the wall using the L brackets brackets screwed into three studs (see picture below). 4. I then screwed the bottom and sides to the top and it was finished. 5. Afterwards, I rubbed it down with tung oil to protect it, which darkened the wood slightly but retained the matte finish. See less

Okay, so I wanted a sweet little inspiration board in the HQ (as opposed to in my office, where I have a ginormous bulletin board). But the walls are low and angled, so I don't have much room for stuff on the walls. So I came up with this: It's an honest-to-goodness bulletin board, with thick cork and everything. But it looks much less menacing than those in office supply stores. Here's how I did it: I took a large wooden embroidery hoop (I have a bunch of these laying around) and laid in on top of an old cork board that was gathering dust in the basement (no new materials were harmed in the creation of this project). I traced the wooden frame onto the back side of the corkboard in pencil. I got out my handy drywall saw and got to sawin'. I love tools. When I had the circle all cut out, I laid a piece of upholstery-weight fabric on top of it, and wedged it into the interior hoop. Then I set the exterior hoop on top of that, and tightened it. Quick and inexpensive - just the way I like it Would you like to know how to make your own fun and full Spring skirt? It’s pretty easy. Here’s what you need: * twin-size flat sheet (72″x104″) * yard stick * washout cloth marker * scissors * sewing machine * thread to coordinate with the sheet * iron * 1/2-inch or 1/4-inch elastic to fit comfortably around your waist Determine how long you want your skirt to be, and add 1.5 inches to that number. Mine was 21 inches, but let’s refer to that number as X. Fold the sheet in half lengthwise and spread it out. We will be using the hemmed edge of the sheet as our skirt hem, saving us the trouble of doing it ourselves. Measuring from that hem, use the yard stick to mark off X inches in several places along the length of the hem. Connect the marked dots, and cut along them.
