What a wonderful book! It was recommended to me by an older family friend who had learnt that I had recently married. I feel that it was her way of trying to tell me what she had learnt in a very long marriage without being intrusive or patronizing. And I'm so glad she did! Whether you're passionate about food, eating it or preparing it, or even if you're not this book is a warm, intelligent 'can't put it down' kind of read. 'Recipes for a Perfect Marriage' should be handed to persons ,young and old, as a manual on getting through life with another person. It offers up humour, comfort, brute honesty and a wisdom that you could sadly go a lifetime without knowing. Kate Kerrigan is an emotionally intelligent genius with a beautiful flair for writing. She clearly writes from the heart. My Marriage and outlook on life is better for having read this delightful book. Read it if you want to understand life and love better! Whilst it could so easily have been depressing this book managed to be uplifting. Quite easy to read, in fact I read this in one sitting. I found this beneficial as I feel if I had taken longer I may not have remember at what stage of her treatment she was at. The main character is Tessa, the novel's narrator. She only has a few months of her life left and at 16 years old, having been sick for the last four years; Tessa wants to make the most of her remaining time. Her list contains the 10 most important things she wants to do; learn to drive, have sex, take drugs, doing something illegal and many others. Getting what she wants does not always bring about the desired consequences but along the way she discovers new things about her relationships with Zoey (the best friend), Cal (her younger brother) and her parents. Life isn't always rosy but through Tessa we get to look at our own priorities and what's important for us as the reader. A tough book with emotions running high all the way... See less

I am really delighted with this book, since buying it two weeks ago .. I've made the tomato and parsnip & ginger soup, mackerel pate, the cod wrapped in bacon, perfect roast veges, fish pie, chicken and leek stroganoff, chicken korma and pasta dish. I'm a person who tends to stick to the same thing or convenience food to ensure my 5 year old gets her tea on time. This book is written in a matter or fact way and doesn't patronise the reader. The ingredients are clearly laid out and because many of the receipes use similar seasonings and basics, you can stock up on these without spending too much money. I also like the under 20 minute dishes, perfect if you do want to prepare something fresh for tea time. I have lots of cookery books but most remain unused largely due to the extraordinary list of ingredients or complexity of the receipes. As Girl bands go Girls Aloud have achieved a lot in their 6 years. They currently hold the record for having more top 10 UK hits than any other Girl Group and their first single from this album, 'The Promise' has already hit number 1 in the UK charts. But that's where the fun ends. Out Of Control is sadly just a mixed bag of material left over from their last album 'Tangled Up'. It's a shame this album feels no different to their past work. Perhaps Cheryl being off doing talent show 'The X Factor' and Nadine living in LA not to mention recording the album seperately to the other girls seems to have taken it's toll. Aside from 'The Promise' the only other track that stands out is 'The Loving Kind' the rest sound like recorded tracks from their last album. For this reason and lack of imagination. Saw this film last night and thoroughly enjoyed it! Can't remember when I last saw a film at the cinema that had the whole audience buzzing, laughing and smiling by the end of it! Fantastic cast, especially Meryl Streep and Julie Walters. Glossing over the fact that Pierce Brosnan sounded as though he was trying to sing while being strangled(!), I thought it was wonderful that he, Colin Firth (more eye candy!) and all the other big name cast members were quite happy to make themselves look as ridiculous as possible so that the comedy element wasn't compromised! Certainly looked like they all enjoyed making this film. Pure entertainment from start to finish! I'd happily go see this again and can't wait for the DVD to come out!
