I've been really trying to like this package, using it now for close to five months. In that time I've logged well north of 8,000 road miles. I'm running it on a T-Mobile MDA with a BT338 Bluetooth GPS. Installation originally was a royal PITA - the installer on the first CD did not work at all. I finally managed to work around this using their "patch" on their web page, and got both the application and maps (along with a voice) loaded on my SD card. Pairing the BT GPS was not obvious either in terms of setup, but once I had that figured out, it worked. The good: 1. It routes nicely most of the time and the instructions work. It'd be nice to have the program actually use voice generation if its available (e.g. Microsoft Voice Command is loaded) so that it speaks the actual names of streets and such, but I can live with "Turn left" - most of the time. My suggestion is to be even more subjective than this, but a lot less arbitrary and look at these applications yourself. One can download a copy of Mapopolis 2 with demo maps that expire after 9 days. The interface will not be exactly like the Navcard, but it will be close enough. You'll just have to keep in mind that the detail control and the 3D maps are things that aren't available on the Navcard, and that map file management (which is kind of a pain in Mapopolis 2) is no longer an issue with the NavCard. As for TomTom, unfortunately there is no trial software, which is unfortunate. First, this software with the Holux GPSlim 236 is what I should have bought. The Tomtom GPS receiver is pretty, but the necessity of switching it on each time you use it (rather than it coming on with external power) has made it a pain to own and I'm going to toss it in a drawer or donate it to a GPSless friend. I use a Dell Axim X51v, so performance is not an issue, even on thousand mile routes the initial route calculation only takes a few seconds. Installation. The installation was simple and trouble free. I had heard that getting the product registered might be an issue but as soon as I connected my PDA to the internet and entered the key I got authorized. Many features were similar on all three applications, including route options of shortest time or distance, voice prompts, POI display on/off, night mode, screen backlight always on, and auto zoom and rotate. Since the differences are what people will be concerned with, I will concentrate on them. The biggest differences were the extra features and the user interface. iGo and Mapopolis have a launch screen with large easy to read buttons. In the meantime however, TwelveBlackCodeMonkeys has an extraordinarily detailed and interesting post in which they describe their experiences installing and navigating with the TomTom Navigator wireless Bluetooth GPS receiver and comparing it using TomTom's included Navigator mapping application versus Mapopolis' US NavCard for PalmOS. If you've considered purchasing such a solution for your Treo and been wondering what is required I can strongly recommend that you read their post. DeLorme’s Street Atlas USA Handheld hasn’t always been the most popular piece of software among Palm and Pocket PC GPS users. Complaints of buggy software, and slow routing are common. Nonetheless, for a handheld GPS solution it does do some pretty amazing things. I’ve spend the last two weeks putting the software through my paces and tracks. Installation I had no problems installing the Street Atlas 2006 Handheld (SA2006HH) software onto my computer. I even installed it on my Mac running Virtual PC (more on that later) and didn’t come across any snags. I chose to install all of the maps on my drive (for faster access). PC Software The software that installs on your PC is basically a stripped down version of Street Atlas USA (non-handheld version). The purpose of this software is to provide an easier platform for generating routes as well as creating the map files that will sync with your desktop. Included in the package was: * Bluetooth GPS receiver * Car Charger * TomTom Installation CD * 8 Map CD's * Quick Start Guide * Product Code Card The first thing you notice is that it does not come with a home charger. On my Ford Escape, I have two cigarette lighters, so I was able to use one for the Treo 650 and one for the GPS receiver. On long trips, you could potentially have power issues that would force you to swap between charging your Treo 650 and charging your GPS. TomTom claims their receiver will last upwards of 10 hours on a full charge. See less

Functionallity of GPS units costing 7 times more. Notebook power and storage far exeeds power of any self contained GPS. Screen many times bigger, easy to read, easy to understand voice commands. Couldn't be happier with this product. Only drawback I have seen is notebook takes more room and the MS GPS 2006 doesn't have 3D screen capability, which I do not miss at all. When you are driving, voice commands are all that count anyway. Everything is easy to program and update on the Web. See less

I have used Automap since 1990. Microsoft bought the company and called the s/w Expedia Streets and Trips and finally MS S&T. I have used MS S&T since its inception and only had problems with my external Garmin GPS used on the serial port (would occassionally crash and restart). This time I bought the MS GPS version (usb) and have zero complaints. I use this product almost daily as I travel in my occupation. When they upgraded from 2000 to 2002 they changed the map format and all my customer routes had to be recreated (by me) - I buy a new version every year or two and am glad that they kept the same user files format once again. I only wish that I could set a user preference of where to store my routes (I could in the pre-2001 versions) but the s/w insists on using "my documents" folder which always forces me to navigate to "my doc......\TripFiles\" If I could get that functionality back I would rate it a 10/10. P.S. I have also used the standard US version of MS S&T in Puerto Rico! See less
