This was a truly excellent book, which I could barely put down. Ms. Gabriel's book has much in common with some other authors who have recently written books discussing the threat of radical Islam. What makes this book stand out is the power of her personal story. The first half of the book describes her unbelievably difficult childhood in Lebanon, living in a tiny bomb shelter with her elderly parents. If you are not moved by her narrative of coming of age in a tiny, filthy, dank, dark closet-sized room with bombs and missiles falling day and night, and fetching water down the road in terror as snipers picked off townsfolk at random, then you are just not capable of being moved. Her account of her family's dignity and perseverence as her town, religion, and way of life were attacked and worn down by fierce opponents is truly inspirational.
