Nancy Barry (moderator) is President of Women's World Banking, where she is responsible for leading WWB's global organization, strategy and operations. A grosso modo, biodiesel é óleo vegetal sem glicerina, enquanto o H-bio é diesel de petróleo com 10% de óleo vegetal. Então quer dizer que se eu adicionar 10% de óleo vegetal no diesel terei H-Bio? Não! O óleo vegetal adicionado ao diesel recebe hidrogênio em sua composição. Por que estão comparando o H-Bio com o biodiesel? O único motivo para isso é relação dos dois combustíveis com o óleo vegetal. Porém, a comparação mais correta seria com a adição do etanol a gasolina. Pois antes de se adiconar álcool a gasolina foi necessário muita pesquisa e o desenvolvimento de uma tecnologia (gasolina tipo C e tipo C Premium), assim como acontece agora com o H-Bio. Além das principais vantagens serem as mesmas, de caráter ambiental. Enquanto com o óleo vegetal no diesel temos redução do enxofre, a adição de etanol na gasolina apresenta reduções nas emissões de CO2. Sabe-se que quanto menor o número de insaturações (duplas ligações) nas moléculas, maior o número de cetano do combustível (maior qualidade à combustão), porém maior o ponto de névoa e de entupimento (maior sensibilidade aos climas frios). Por outro lado, um elevado número de insaturações torna as moléculas menos estáveis quimicamente. Isso pode provocar inconvenientes devido a oxidações, degradações e polimerizações do combustível (ocasionando um menor número de cetano ou formação de resíduos sólidos), se inadequadamente armazenado ou transportado. While some studies find that investments by firms in social responsibility translate into quantifiable financial benefits, other studies do not. [1] Such conflicting results have not given values-centered executives the evidence they need to convince skeptical peers, boards, and investors that doing good may contribute to a firm’s doing well. There are many reasons for the inconsistent evidence of social responsibility/financial performance link. Perhaps most importantly (and as any manager with responsibility for profits and losses knows), it is extremely difficult to isolate the effects of investments in corporate social responsibility on a company’s bottom line, especially since so many variables simultaneously influence financial performance.
