Hello and welcome to a new month! I always Love beginnings :) Around here the beginning of July holds the promise of many great outdoor adventures together as a family, it means the start of two months of summer vacation. The kids are out of school, and the air is filled with the freshness that comes after lots of rain. Summer plans are well underway, and as my littlest one, Bella, says "mama, I smell sun!" she is right, it is that warm humid summer air that makes me breathe a little bit deeper every time I go outside. mmmmm! July also bring the start of my first playground column, I hope you will come out and play with me here as we explore an important topic this month "sharing the Big stories" - The ones we often tend to put off scrapbooking. If you haven't had a chance to read my article you can check out the online version, see the link in my last post. I love sharing , it makes me happy, so I am really excited to have a gift to share this month! Since I just can't wait, we are going to work out of order through my playground challenges; beginning with what I had as solution number two: creating a simple story book. I had passed by these photos so many times. I couldn't imagine where to begin to tell the story of such a great summer tradition. With so many awesome photos that could tell the story themselves It was just too big! Here are some more images of my little hybrid book. These are my good friend Kristie's boys, they have grown up together with my girls and are such good friends. I narrowed it down to 34 "favorite" storytelling photos ( you can see why I was putting off scrapping this!) so here are just a few of the different sections. I have been trying to post this since July 1st, but seem to be having some trouble with the color of the photos going all wonky. So pardom the coloring please, this is the best they have posted yet! The idea behind this little book is to Make it simple. When the the task of telling an important story feels daunting, I always think there must be a way to make this easy! I am giving you the 3.5x5 page I used throughout the book as a cover , a journaling page and a section divider. By creating the base page once digitally and re-using it I was able to focus on my photos and save time on my design. you can print it out and embellish it traditionally, or add some digital goodies before printing. It's your storybook, your style, I hope you ENJOY! A big thanks to Katie Pertiet at designerdigitals.com, Kate Hadfield at the-lilypad.com and Jen Wilson at jenwilsondesigns.com for being willing to share their wonderful designs with everyone! My challenge for you is a Photo challenge: Gather photos from different times that all celebrate one important tradition in your life. Bring them together to create your own simple but meaningful storybook. post your storybook in the image gallery by Wednesday ( Jul.11) and leave a link here in the comments of this post so we can check it out, I can't wait to see all of your stories!
