I thought the price was justified b/c the CF cards were included, but these are NOT included so you're spot on. That means this SATA drive shell is about $165 more expensive than the IDE version.
Ah, yes. You are correct, sir. Kit Eaton explains, "The new version now accepts CF 3x cards and can create drives between 2GB and a crazy (and impossible, for now) 2TB in size. So you could buy a pair of 32GB CF cards for around $270, add in $192.57 for the DIY drive and you'd have a 64GB SATA SSD for about $460 — less than half the cost of the 64GB MacBook Air's drive. Not bad, eh? Available from May 1st."
For the record, I still think this is a very cool piece of gear, even though CF cards aren't too fast - rigging them up to a standard SATA interface is neatos.
