A sonnet is a love poem with fourteen lines each comprised of ten syllables that originated during the Italian Renaissance. Sonnet means "little song" in Italian. Originally popularized by Shakespeare, both Elizabeth Barrett Browning and Alfred Lord Tennyson were famous for their sonnets composed during the Victorian era.
