Pattern: inspired by this thread at Craftster Yarn: between 5 and 6 balls black Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Aran (recycled from Tempting) Needles: size 10 Denise interchangeables Time to knit: About 10 days - October 2005 Notes: * To knit this shrug, I followed the basic tutorial posted by julsey on page 11 of the Craftster thread (link above). I wanted to knit at a larger gauge, however, so I did a gauge swatch and got about 16 stitches and 24 rows to 4″ on size 10 needles. Here’s how my pattern looked from there: * CO 158 stitches. * Work in 2×2 rib for 27 rows. * Next row (WS): P2, K2, then P2tog across the row to last four stitches - K2, P2. (This left four ribbed stitches on either side of the work). * Next row (RS): K2, P2, K2tog, work in “King Charles Brocade” pattern to last 6 stitches - K2tog, P2, K2. (I decreased one stitch at each end of the work to get the right number of stitches for the brocade pattern - it needs to be worked in multiples of 12 stitches plus one, so I had 73 stitches overall). * Work in brocade pattern for 18″, keeping four ribbed stitches at either end. 109 rows total. * Next row (WS): P2, K2, then M1P in every stitch across the row to last four stitches - K2, P2. This will double the number of stitches. * Work in 2×2 rib for 26 rows. Bind off loosely. * Bring the sides of the ribbed sections together and seam. Continue for another 3″ into the brocade section. Repeat on second side. * I decided to knit a little flower pin to use as the closure. I used the flower pattern from Scarf Style (it’s included in the crocheted trellis scarf pattern) and then tacked a safety pin on the back. I also knit the second flower from the Petals pattern on Knitty, but wasn’t really that happy with it. * The Cashmerino Aran frogged and re-knit beautifully. I love this yarn - it’s really soft and nice to work with, and its stretchiness makes it good for ribbed patterns. It’s hard for me to know exactly how much yarn I used - but it took up nearly all of what I had left after frogging Tempting. * I didn’t end up blocking this sweater - impatience took over and I just ended up seaming it right after I finished knitting it. I don’t think blocking would really have been necessary anyway. * Thanks to all the Craftsters who helped to make this sweater possible! And make sure to check out all the other lovely circular shrugs that people have posted on the thread.
