Types of Pigmented Scars - Red or Brown Acne Scarring There are two types of acne scars: pitted and pigmented. Pitted scarring is a result of damage to underlying skin tissue. Pigmented scars are red or brown marks left behind after an acne blemish has disappeared. Pigmented scarring is the most common and while it is not permanenent, it can take weeks or months for it to clear. Often, the scar has not gone away before a new set of blemishes arrive - causing a perpetual cycle of disfigured skin that can leave many acne sufferers depressed about the condition of their skin. Some people may have found a treatment that keeps their blemishes under control - only to discover that the red or brown marks remain - preventing their skin from looking completely clear and acne-free. MaMa Lotion, a revolutionary concoction of non-irritating AHAs and marine-derived antiinflammatories, helps solve the problem by rapidly fading red or brown acne scarring without undue irritation, dryness, or excessive peeling. Indented or Pitted Acne Scars Pitted acne scars are one of the most difficult skin problems to treat. Pitted scars are a sign of permanently damaged skin tissue. Although pitted acne scars can never be completely erased, there are a few things one can do to help. One recommendation is to get a series of peels performed in a dermatologists office - this helps decrease the depth of the scarring. Another key to reducing the appearance of pitted acne scars is to stimulate collagen and elastin production in the skin. This will help plump the underlying structure of the skin - further reducing the depth and appearance of the scars. MaMa Lotion, helps improve the appearance of pitted acne scarring by combining both treatments. Alpha Hydroxy Acids are known skin exfoliators - and are often used in dermatologists offices as peeling agents. For a peeling effect, the formula must be at concentrations of 20% or higher and have a very low pH - 2.0-2.5 is ideal. By combining two alpha hydroxy acids known for their non-irritating nature, the makers of the MaMa Lotion were able to provide an effective peeling lotion at a low pH for at-home use. When used every other day, they found that MaMa Lotion was even gentle enough for use on sensitive skin types. In the initial studies performed by Dr. Van Scott and Dr. Yu (the discoverers of alpha hydroxy acids), they found that higher concentrations of alpha hydroxy acids provided benefits beyond just surface exfoliation. In AHA concentrations of 20% or more, they found signs of increased collagen production within the skin. At a concentration of 20% AHA, MaMa Lotion is able to provide these same collagen promoting benefits - without the irritation and redness that Retin-A or Renova can cause. Because of the nature of pitted scarring - even the most effective treatments will take time in order to show a noticeable effect. We recommend using the MaMa Lotion for a minimum of a year in order to see good results on this type of scarring. What is MaMa Lotion MaMa Lotion is an alpha hydroxy acid gel that combines anti-inflammatory marine extracts with 10% Mandelic Acid and 10% Malic Acid at a 2.5 pH level. Mandelic acid and Malic acid are alpha hydroxy acids that were chosen for their unique properties - properties that were ideal for treating acne-prone skin and acne scarring, making it more effective than glycolic acid formulations in similar concentrations. Benefits of Mandelic Acid * Naturally anti-bacterial. One of the main contributing factors to inflammatory acne is bacteria. This natural property of mandelic acid aids in preventing the appearance of new, unwanted blemishes. * Absorbs and controls oil * Gentle penetration helps protect against irritation, which can cause more redness and more scarring Benefits of Malic Acid * Natural humectant, which draws water out of the dermis and into the epidermis. This helps keep the skin hydrated, without contributing to oiliness * Natural antioxidant properties help fight free radicals in the skin - which can contribute to skin damage. * Gentle nature makes it
