(Shown on page 45, Adorn Spring 07) Designed by Erin Harris YOULL NEED: 3/4 yd. purple floral fabric for outer skirt (we got all of our fabrics from reprodepot.com) 3/4 yd. white floral fabric for outer bodice 3/4 yd. green polka-dot fabric for neck ties, waist ties, and waistband 1/4 yd. pink print fabric for pocket 1 1/2 yds. solid white fabric for skirt and bodice lining 1 pkg. jumbo rickrack in white 42" length 1" wide ruffled eyelet trim in white Matching thread Rotary cutter and cutting mat 6" x 24" quilting ruler Fabric scissors Straight pins Sewing machine Iron Turning tool Skill Level: Intermediate Note: Wash and iron fabrics before cutting. Use 1/2" seam allowance throughout. Seam allowance is included in templates. Baste using a long machine stitch. Cutting fabric: When cutting straight pieces, work on cutting mat using rotary cutter and quilting ruler. From green polka-dot, cut two 7" x 36" strips for waist ties, two 5" x 21" strips for neck ties, and two 3" x 21" strips for waistbands. Cut one 21" x 42" rectangle from purple floral for outer skirt and one 21" x 42" rectangle from white for skirt lining. Enlarge bodice and pocket templates at as indicated. Place bodice template on fold of fabric and cut one outer bodice from white floral and one bodice lining from white. Using pocket template, cut two pockets from pink print. Waist ties: With right sides together, fold a 7" x 36" strip in half, matching long edges, and press. Sew long edge. At one end, sew at a 45 degree angle from end of seamed edge to folded edge. Clip corner and trim seams to 1/4". Turn right side out, push out corners with turning tool, and press. Topstitch 1/8" from both long edges and the angled edge. Repeat for other waist tie. Neck ties: With right sides together, fold a 5" x 21" strip in half, matching long edges, and press. Follow instructions above for sewing waist ties. Repeat for other neck tie. Bodice: With right side of outer bodice face up, center rickrack along edge of neck opening and inner shoulders and pin. Baste rickrack in place. Fold shoulder edges of outer bodice and bodice lining 1/2" to wrong side and press. With right sides together, pin outer bodice to bodice lining, matching raw edges. Sew neck edge and both side edges, leaving waist and shoulder edges open. Clip corners at neck and trim seams to 1/4". Turn right side out and press. Mark center of lower edge of outer bodice and bodice lining. Waistbands: Fold short edges of waistband strips 1/2" to wrong side and press. Mark center of long edges of both waistband strips. With right sides of waistbands together, sandwich the outer bodice and bodice lining between the waistbands, aligning raw edges, and matching centers. Sew seam, beginning and ending at short waistband edges. Fold waistbands down and press. On lining side of bodice, fold lower edge of waistband 7/16" to wrong side and press. Skirt: Fold ends of eyelet trim 1/4" to wrong side twice and sew close to inner fold. With right sides together, pin trim to bottom edge of outer skirt. Begin and end 1/2" from sides of outer skirt and align top of trim 1/4" from raw edge. Baste trim in place. With right sides together, pin outer skirt to skirt lining. Sew along bottom and side edges. Clip corners and trim seams to 1/4". Turn right side out and press. Mark center of outer skirt. Pin top edges of outer skirt and skirt lining together. Use a long machine stitch and sew, first 1/4" and then 3/8" from raw edge. With right sides together, pin skirt to outer waistband, matching centers and edges. Gently pull bobbin thread to gather skirt. Distribute gathers evenly, pin, and baste. Sew, being careful to not catch inner waistband in seam. Press seam toward waistband. With lining side face up, fold inner waistband down, covering seam, and pin. With outer skirt face up, topstitch bottom edge of waistband close to seam. Pocket: With right side of one pocket piece face up, center and pin rickrack along sides and bottom. Baste rickrack in place. Fold top edges of both pocket pieces 1/2" to
