A blogger at the Atlanta Journal-Constitution coined a term I wish I'd thought of: the color switch itch. Does this happen to you every season, the desire to remove certain colors and replace them as hot/warm weather fades and cool/cold weather descends? Summer colors are lighter and airier. We tend to think of yellows, pinks, and pastels as "summery." Green is a transition color that can be used throughout the year. The coolness of autumn invokes burnt orange, brown, and other earth tones. Sheer curtains give way to weightier and darker draperies to reflect the need to stay warm and cozy. The blogger mentions buying large furniture in basic colors, but adding dashes of seasonal colors with throw pillows. You can accomplish the same with slipcovers and throw rugs. Idea: write down a list of your favorite fall/winter colors and take small steps toward integrating them into your home this fall. Switching colors doesn't have to be complicated, time-consuming, or expensive.
