This album is and has continually grown as I have listened to it. It is a gentler album than much of the rest of BNL's output. So, if you are expecting it to be exactly like their past albums, than you are likely to be disappointed. But, if you listen to it closely a few times, you will soon begin to realize that it is genuine BNL and the nuances are just a drop more subdued. I have grown to like every song on this album, and I was even taken by surprise when listening to "Peterborough and the Kawarthas," which is definitely one of my favorite tracks. I said to myself, "Who is singing this?" the first time I heard it. Well, it was Jim, who hasn't sung lead on any album since "Spiders in My Room" on Born on a Pirate Ship. I always find myself singing happily along with "Bull in a China Shop" and swaying to the gentle harmony of "Take It Back." Honestly, the only song on this album that feels a bit contrived to me is "Bank Job." It is a subtly funny song where the lyrics rhyme a little too easily and the laid back pace of this album could have used a change to help this song. It needs a little more adrenaline. If you choose to give this album a chance, I am sure it will grow with you as well. Comment | Was this review helpful to you? (Report this)
