While Burning Man can seem like it is removed from the norms of traditional society, burners should be aware that federal, state, and local laws still apply. The best idea is to obey all laws; however, you should know your rights and what to do in the event you are stopped by law enforcement. Law enforcement may stop and question you if there is a reasonable, objective basis that you are or about to engage in criminal activity. Further, the police are allowed to arrest or cite you, if they have probable cause to believe you have committed a crime. If you are stopped for questioning: * Be polite and courteous to law enforcement. Don’t complain or argue. * Don’t run or resist.
