A variety of ear rings are found adorning the male and female sculptures of the Karnataka region of south India. The type of ear rings commonly noticed in the sculptures of the early Chalukya period are the large circular kundalas. During Vijayanagar times the muktodaka ear rings, which were made of pearls, were very popular. Besides, the ladies of the royal household used to wear vajragarbha, ear rings studded with diamonds in teh centre. Men wore sun shaped ear ornaments of dfferent sizes. The sopan krama vinyasta kundala, which had the precious stones set along with a large ring to cover the entire ear, seems to have come into vogue during the later Chalukya period.
