Introducing a fully pneumatic Canvas Stretching Machine or Canvas Stretcher designed to produce gallery wraps and regular stretches for original artwork and giclee prints in less than 3 minutes. Now you can stretch a canvas in a fraction of the time and save on labor costs. The Canvas Stretching Machine, as seen in this video, offers two very unique features that set it apart from other stretching machines on the market, an adjustable pressure regulated stretcher bar and the fact that it mounts to the side of a workbench, this provides the operator with a relatively seamless work surface. Another feature that is uncommon to existing canvas stretching machines is that stapling is done from the front. In addition to all the these features, all of the folds can be made in place. Weighing only 40 pounds, it can easily be transported and placed on top of any flat work surface that will accommodate a 3.5" X 12" X 60" footprint. Operation: 1. The operator lays the artwork on a clean, non-abrasive surface and folds the canvas along the edge of the image to create a reference point. The operator aligns the assembled stretcher bar frame and staples the canvas to one rail. 2. Standing in front of the machine, the operator steps on the foot pedal to open the clamp. 3.The unstapled end, opposite to stapled end, is then placed into the clamp and aligned. 4. The operator removes their foot, allowing the clamp to close. A flow control device slows down the clamping speed to minimize damage to equipment and personnel. 5. When the artwork is securely clamped the operator flips a toggle valve to initiate the stretch. The stretcher plates will slowly, but deliberately force the wood stretcher bar toward the operator. 6. When the canvas is taut, the operator can apply a course of staples to the underside of the stretcher bar to affix the canvas. 7. The operator then steps on the foot pedal, opening the clamp, rotates the artwork 90 degrees, makes folds, feeds folded ends into the clamp, removes foot from pedal, flips toggle valve and staples. 8. Repeat step 7 for the remaining side. Summary: For many years the only form of canvas stretching equipment was a pair of canvas pliers, today, fine art giclee reproductions, original and digital art on canvas can be stretched by a number of mechanical and pneumatic canvas stretching machines on the market. They range in size from 28 in. to 60 in. We have created a Canvas Stretcher that allows the operator to apply staples from the front keeping the artwork face-up and away from the operator's body. Our canvas stretcher is affordable, reduces labor cost, compact and user-friendly and we can custom build a machine to your specifications up to 8' (we no longer make machines smaller than 60"). If you are a commercial printer and print giclees to canvas then you should read this article on "Multiply yourself - Printing To Canvas."
