The reason many parents prefer the Firefly is because of the control you have on your child with it. There is a phone book that can store 20 contacts, along with numbers for mom and dad. It is possible to protect the phone book and call screening function using a PIN. With this done, the child can only receive phone calls from the numbers stored in the phone and not from unknown numbers. Moreover it is not possible to add numbers to the phone book unless the PIN is entered. Though the phone may display missed calls and call timer list, the child cannot accept voice mailbox messages. There are no other functions here like there is no organizer and messaging applications. However Firefly aims at compensating for this with other functionalities. It is possible to choose your phone from various colors for backlights and screen animations. It is possible to activate the light when charging the phone. There are 12 monophonic ring tones that can be allotted for different contacts of the phone book. And the lights that sparkle with each phone ring are sure to make your child happy. It is rather difficult teaching responsibility to children. However with the help of the Firefly, you see that the child gradually learns responsibility of owning a cell phone. And with the phone available at a reasonable rate of $100, this phone could be considered the best phone for your kid. See less »
