I thought about pods and other single serve coffee makers, but when I stopped to think about why I was getting a new coffee maker it came down to two facts - my wife and I always broke the glass pot when washing it out and I wanted a coffee maker that could handle making great coffee by the cup or by the pot. After searching through many models of coffee makers online and in stores we settled on this model as it met the two requirements: no glass pot and the ability to make coffee by the cup or by the vat easily. We got a few added bonuses from this model: a water purifying filter that makes even generic coffee taste gourmet, a coffee maker that truly warms from beginning to end with no "two-hour burn" taste, easy cleaning with no mess, and a 15"x9"x9" footprint that takes up less space than the combination espresso/coffee maker that got replaced. The dispensing area is slightly under 6" so tall travel mugs won't fit, not a problem in this house however. Purifying filters are available from manufacturer for now, I've ordered a dozen just in case they decide to discontinue at some point, but the lack of a filter won't make this machine obsolete. Buy this if you want great coffee, never worry about cleaning a carafe again as one of many bonuses. Comment | Was this review helpful to you? (Report this)
