Though it was only as high as 70th street, editors felt like they had been transported to the top of Mount Everest as Eddie Bauer hosted a lunch with special guest Jim Whittaker at the Explorers’ Club to re-introduce the brand to editors. The venerable brand is future-oriented. ”It’s like we’re taking them back to their roots,” explained the first American who reached the top of Everest, clad in Eddie Bauer gear. Over a lunch of salmon, guests were regaled with his climbing stories, including bringing Robert Kennedy up Mt. Kennedy and organizing a peace climb with climbers from the US, USSR and China. “When I went climbing with Robert, I picked him up at the airport, took a look at his Abercrombie & Fitch yellow jackets and said, this won’t do!” quipped the climber. “With Eddie Bauer, there will be no kid left inside!”
