This one of a kind, wearable work of art is known as a Kafka Clock. It's creation was influenced by biomechanics, the shadowboxes of Joseph Cornell, the literature of Franz Kafka, and the aesthetics of the modern movement known as Steampunk; a sub-culture based on Victorian Invention, such as the steam powered engine and other mechanical devices that go whirr, whiz, and POP! This unique piece features an antique watch movement enhanced with the addition of natural garnet and carnelian cabochons and a jewel-like insect specimen of the family Pachryrrhynchus (a type of spider) from the Philippines. The combination of which illustrates the beauty of human invention as well as the splendors of Nature's own handiwork. These magnificent pieces are *not* encased in resin. Air flows free under the glass and throughout the inside of the pocket watch case, that same as in shadow boxes. It can be worn as a (non-functional) pocket watch or pendant, or can be hung on a wall as an interesting shadowbox or shrine. This Kafka Clock comes with a heavy rolo chain that features two large lobster clasps as closures, paying homage to the look and feel of pocket watch chain. The chain is available in 16, 18, or 20 inch length. ***Please specify desired length of chain in the "Message to Seller" upon checkout.*** The pocket watch case measures 1.5 inches in diameter. Shipping charges are for Priority Mail and include insurance within the United States. International charges are for Registered Mail.
