A few months ago everyone went crazy over the Anya Hindmarch “I’m not a Plastic Bag” tote bag. If you missed the frenzy, all it was was a tote bag, devised to use for carrying groceries, with the words “I’m not a Plastic Bag” emblazoned across its front. It was made in limited quantities, sold for around $15 and was famously spotted on the arm of Keira Knightley. The bag is now turning up on Ebay with bids in the hundreds of dollars. Instead of going that route I have a better suggestion – Buy the World Food Programme FEED bag. It’s a reversible canvas and burlap tote bag, available exclusively through Amazon, which was conceived of by Lauren Bush, an Honorary Spokesperson for the UN World Food Programme. The bag costs $59.95 and the proceeds go to the FEED Project, which uses the funds from each bag to feed one child in school for an entire year (at a cost of 19¢ a day ($34 a year)). This way you can carry your groceries in a snazzy reusable bag and help people in need. What could be better than that? What do you think? Leave a comment and let us know.
