The other day I was in the grocery store looking at a few items on sale. In the dairy section there were quite a few yogurts and cheeses on sale, so I took a closer look. I vaguely recalled the last time I purchased “low-fat” cream cheese and was disappointed that it didn’t taste nearly the same as the full-fat version. Fortunately, not all food flavors have to suffer when fat is reduced or eliminated, but are the low fat versions really worth the sometimes higher price? Consider these points: * Just because the food you are purchasing is fat free doesn’t mean it has fewer calories than the full-fat version. Well, it may in fact actually have fewer calories, but is it enough to make a difference? Compare the calorie counts on the two different versions of your favorite cookies, yogurts, or cheeses. In some cases you’ll find the number of calories per serving only differs by anywhere from 3-10 calories.
