I have a small one. Worth every penny, i love it. My Persian cat hates any kind of brushing, but for some reason she enjoys this.)

Awesome. I think I'll start with unscented in case she wouldn't like the smell so she doesn't form any extra negative opinions about them. I've been meaning to try some of those but I hadn't yet heard anyone's opinion of them. Thanks!
@alicatstrut: Just work the wipes deep into her fur (my girl cat has long fur). She'll end up looking a little damp with messy hair, but just brush her out afterward and she'll dry up in no time. Also, the wipes come unscented and scented. My girl cat doesn't mind the scented ones (they make her smell so good!), but my boy cat doesn't like the scented ones.
@mamor, that's awesome and I think she would put up with the dampness. I'm going to try those, too, thanks!
@alicatstrut: I had a bad dander problem with my black and white (mostly black) until I started bathing her with kitty wipes (they look like baby wipes, but are safe for pets). I use them about twice a week and no more dander! They are about five bucks for a pack of 20 wipes at Petco.
I know, right! I have now convinced three other cat owners to buy this thing. Out of the six cats we all have, only two actually enjoy being brushed with it, but all of them have learned to put up with it. One of my cats had major dander shedding issues and they've really cleared up and her fur looks so much shinier. So totally worth the price.
I love my Furminator. I just gently run it over my cats as if I'm petting them and they'll let me brush them forever. My mother has had less luck with hers. She likes to brush hard and fast which causes the cats to run away and hate being brushed. I think the best thing about this is how easily the hair comes out of the brush.
So far, so good on this thing. I haven't noticed a difference in the amount of hair deposited on my furniture and clothing, but I've been easing them into regular use. I HAVE noticed a decrease in the amount of dander visible on their coats.
and yes, I do realize that I sound like I am getting a cut of the sales...I just really love this thing.
once they get used to it you will see a difference. we have a black couch that used to be completely covered with hair and now there are just a few here and there. pretty good, seeing as how I can really only use it on edgar. zelda can't stand the feeling of it, and also her fur is bunny-soft, so it doesn't seem to work as well on her anyway.
Yeah, I read the instructions and they made me a little nervous, so I've just been stroking them with it a bit here and there. They're impatient with it, but they're impatient with all of their brushes. I find it doesn't pick up as much hair as some other brushes I have, but I think it's picking up deeper hairs so maybe it will eventually decrease the amount of shedded hair that collects all over my apartment.
that is how it always is...you kind of have to be careful not to do too many strokes with hair on the brush because it will shock the kitty. also, be careful with how much pressure you use. edgar loves this brush so much...he'll sit and let me brush him for HOURS.
Thanks for the tip!I tried it out on one of my cats real quick (just one or two strokes) and it did pick up a lot of hair. It was also static-y when I removed the hair to toss it. I don't know if that's how it always is, but it was useful because it meant the hair didn't go all over the place.
From what I gather, there are three sizes. The tiniest one is blue and intended for shedding miniature breeds, puppies & kittens. The middle size is purple and intended for shedding cats and small dogs. The wider yellow one looks rather like a window squeegie and is intended for larger dogs. Happy grooming!
@ looselips: This arrived and the instructions specifically say you can use them on cats AND dogs as long as your pet's fur is COMPLETELY dry and as long as it is used "ONLY on 'shedding' breeds of cats and dogs."
I'm pretty excited because all the reviews on Petco.com are just as good as what I'm hearing from everyone on Kaboodle and holy crap do I spend a lot of time cleaning all of the things that the cats shed on. (I could make twelve new cats with the hair that accumulates in a day.)And you're so right! It's purple! (It matches two of the rooms in my house!)
It works on my baby...when she lets me do it. Hair everywhere. You can make a new cat with all the dander that comes off with this bad boy. And it's purple!
It was on sale for $31.99 today and hophead said it works well and I had a kitty birthday coupon so I bought it.
